Sick Day

Working with children in my home does not always allow for me to take sick days.  When I have a common cold or allergies, I have to suck it up and use whatever energy I have to take care of the precious ones.

I must have been exposed to pollen or weeds. For the last 5 days I have had problems with hayfever.  Splitting headache, sneezing, runny nose, congestion, sinus pressure, ears clogged, soar throat and just down right miserable.   Forgive me for not blogging recently.  Thinking a little bit is hard to do right now.

I have tried different allergy medicines along with a nasal spray.  A friend also recommended taking Airborne.  I have tried most of the over-the-counter medications.  I don't have an infection (yet) so a doctor wont give me any medication.  UGH!

What do you do when your allergies flare up?  I am desperate and will try anything!

  1. Since I have had a cold or flu for about 2 weeks (unusual, by the way) I can relate! Just do your best and drink LOTS of hot tea with lemon.

The man who runs our tennis club gave me a seriously good folk remedy which I tried because I was SO SICK (and it tastes good too) this recipe is from his grandmother!

Get a piece of fresh ginger. Peel it. Cut about an inch or two of the ginger and "muddle" it, meaning kind of break it up with a wooden spoon handle. Boil a teacup worth of water with the ginger pieces in it. Boil it hard! Let the flavor develop during the boiling. Then pour it all in a cup and drink. The aroma is soothing and the ginger water surprisingly tastes pretty good. I kept the ginger pieces in my cup, they sink to the bottom but you could strain out the pieces.

    Hope you feel better soon!

  3. My best friend has run a daycare center for 30 years, so I understand your situation. I think you should listen to Ina. GINGER is good for what ails you. Also tea and lemon. My daughter and husband suffer with allergies and it seems NOTHING helps whatever they try prescription wise. HANG IN THERE. Take care.

  4. Taking a spoon of local honey helps with the allergies helps build up an immunity to the local pollens. Best if you get the kind that has not been processed with high-heat. Hope you get to feeling better!
