Hollywood Squares vs Hip Hop Squares

Hollywood Squares in the 1970s.

Do you remember Paul Lynde? I do.
I also remember him playing Uncle Arthur on Bewitched.
Paul made a lot of hysterical comments on the Hollywood Squares that as a young girl I didn't understand.  Now I realize he was homosexual and the comments were about homosexuality.  It amazes me because that was over 30 years ago and the topic of homosexuality WAS NOT discussed.

Hip-Hop Square 2012
It's a modern version of Hollywood Squares that premiered recently.
It is viewed on MTV for todays teenagers.

Zachary says it's Tic-Tac-Toe with a lot of cool rappers.
When I told him about Hollywood Squares he looked at me like I had a square head on my shoulders.

Talk about a huge generation gap!

Wonder what he would think if I told him about $10,000 Pyramid??

  1. Loved that show back in the day! I talk about things from when we were teens and Katelyn looks at me the same way! I feel like my poor parents that had to walk to school bare foot in the dead of winter! lol! Happy Monday!

  2. You are too young to remember Paul Lynde! I remember him well and LOVED his sassy style, and although I thought he was gay, his mannerisms were, to me, just hilarious. I remember the days when moms were home and had the afternoon game shows on, followed by all the soap operas. Back then there was no cable TV with the vast choices we have now. It was the morning news, followed by the game shows, the soaps, the evening news, then the family style series like Bonanza, Gidget, Perry Mason, and the like. Everyone watched TV together and there was no remote control!!

I loved Hollywood Squares, the Match Game and the Mike Douglas show (talk show) which was on in the afternoons in our area. For a while, Dinah Shore had an afternoon talk show too. I am certain you are too young to remember that! Thanks for the memories! xoxo

  3. I liked the Newlywed Game better but there were some funny moments on this show. People that are into "new" things don't want to that it is a retake on an old idea. Tell him that "The Simpsons" is a retake combo of "The Honeymooners" and "Leave It to Beaver".

  4. Oh my goodness. The memories have flooded back. Game Shows were always on at my house. The Hollywood Squares was one of my favorites. Paul Lynde was a hoot. He had a great sense of timing and was a FANTASTIC comedian. Never heard of this Hip-Hop Squares on MTV. young people think they INVENTED all these things. LOL take care.

  7. Isn't it funny how all the old shows are making a come back? My kids are even re-watching all the old cartoon shows on Netflix.
