Friday Fragments

Welcome to Friday Fragments

Brandon has his first High School Hockey Game of the season.
His team won 7-2! Great way to begin the season!!
Brandon with his girlfriend, Jenn.
Isn't is cute that she is wearing his jersey?

Melissa drew a Sock-Monkey for my husband.
He is an economics teacher and uses the sock-monkey as a reference to supply and demand.
Melissa is my oldest son, Ahren's girlfriend.

The kids at my day-care painted pumpkins this week.

My sister is fighting for the rights of Mid-wives.
I did not know it was illegal for a midwife to practice in the state of AL.
Tori is the one on the right.
"CNM's Certified Nurse Midwives are legalized in 50 states but each state dictates their restrictions (such as in Alabama they can not do homebirth, have a birth center, and very few are allowed to attend a hospital birth) so in essence they are only allowed to do gyn care in AL. CPM's (Certified Professional Midwives) are illegal in Alabama. Two midwives have been arrested in this state. I can't practice in this state or I will be arrested. I practice in TN where it is legal because I am a CPM."   ~ Tori

Have a wonderful weekend!!

  1. I didn't know that.......I know an awful lot of babies who were delivered by midwives......so I guess Florida is one that is ok with it. I have always heard that births are much easier when a midwife is involved. Hoping Alabama gets with the program and soon!

Congratulations to Brandon and his team......cute girlfriend and she looks so proud!

    1. I think more people are beginning to choose the option of a midwife. It is a more personal experience.

  8. What a great week you have had. Congratulations on the hockey win. I am glad to see more emphasis on junior hockey since the NHL is locked out.

    1. I am very disappointed about the lock out. AHL is still playing. That is local and we bought tickets to a few games.

  10. Hmm, I think around here we have the "midwife" and then a "doula". I believe the doula, in the legal sense, can do more. Like prescribe medications and attend home births, whereas the midwife cannot. Often they work in teams, with the midwife doing the prenatal checkups, etc. But the doula is on hand for any pregnancy related risks and the birth.

ahhh, the days of wearing your man's oversized hockey jersey.
    sadly -- they're no longer oversized :(

  13. Girlfriends and boyfriends at that age are adorable. I dread however, when that cuteness wears off at like 18 or so.

  17. Good for the hockey team and continued success.

I worked on OB and have ancestors who were midwives in Sweden. The midwives I've known have taught me a thing or two, and are very informed and do a great job! Hope they can influence the lawmakers.

  18. That's crazy! I've used midwives for the birth of both my sons and will use one again once I deliver again in April. Midwives save the health care system money, are very effective, and I believe help keep a woman calm and relaxed resulting in less complications!

  19. I had no idea that midwives could be an ill legal thing, that is crazy!!! I never took the opportunity to use one, but all my friends loved their experience.

The realm of boyfriends and girlfriends. Is itt as scary as I'm thinking it's going to be? I have a few years yet..though we have had a first kiss already.
