What Was, or What's to Be?

If you had the choice of going back in the past to a specific time in history, OR, if you could travel ahead into the future (you are coming back to present, don't worry) --- which would you choose?

I would  choose the past.  I am fascinated with history and there is a few specific events that interests me.

One of my favorite historical fiction novels is based around the Jacobite rebellion.  (you can click HERE to find out why). Even though I know the Jacobite struggle has been romanticized to create the image of the Highlander, the Jacobite cause wasn't Scotland vs. England, and Bonnie Prince Charlie was no hero, I still enjoy reading about it.   It reminds me of  a soap opera colliding with a spy novel in the 1740's.

Another event that has always peaked my interest is the American Revolution.  Everyone has heard of George Washington, John Adams and Benedict Arnold, but who knows about Molly Pitcher or Patience Wright?  Molly and Patience are just two of many women who made a difference in the Revolutionary war.  I think it would be an awesome experience to have know such brave women.

Now that you know where I would go, where would you?
I wonder where our lovely hostess, Les would go?
Let's find out, shall we?

  1. I love historical novels however I am not into being a part of the actual novel. Reading about is one thing living it is another.

  2. I went to the past as well....to the turbulent 60s/70s! I was a small child in the 70s, but consider the 80s and 90s "my time", so going back to the 70s would be like a completely new experience for me :)

  4. bravo. 2 very interesting times to go back and visit. As a Canadian, I would pick the Civil War for US history. It would be interesting to actually see it played out....since my head is mostly full of images of Scarlett and Rhett.

  8. The Civil War would have been choice #3. Gettysburg is about 3 hours from me and we have travelled there a lot. (That's where Lincoln gave his famous "Gettysburg Address" speech.

  9. I was a small child in the 70's too. I remember my childhood, but not much of the world around me. Going back as an adult would be an eye opener!

  11. time travel ideas are so interesting and made for a few good movies. Remember "Frequency"?
So did you plan on trying to change anything in this other time? How long would you be there? Who is going to cook dinner?

  12. I would be there for observation purposes only. I don't know how long I'd stay. I suppose it depends how much I miss a hot shower. As far as dinner: in that time period I do not know if a man knew how to cook. Hunt, yes. Cook, no. LOL

  13. Hey those guys that lived in the woods and trails probably knew some basic cooking. However I was actually thinking of the meals being missed at your present day home.
