Stalker at Full Sail College

Try to picture this….
a grown man….
in a mini-van….
with a wide lens camera….
taking pictures of a college at night….
Okay, it was my husband taking pictures of a potential college he and Zachary went to visit.
The security didn't care that I threatened my husband with his life if he didn't come home with pictures of the college.
They laughed, but still escorted him off the school campus.

Friday Fragments

Good Friday All!

Mommy's Idea
Welcome to Friday Fragments, hosted by the lovely Mrs. 4444s at Half-past Kissin' Time.

TV
The Voice aired Monday AND Tuesday! YAY!  I get to stalk watch my love favorite singer two times a week.
We have embraced technology and now have two Apple TVs.  It's awesome!  Anything you purchase on iTunes can be viewed on your TV.  It has other features too.  My favorite is the NHL package (similar to what you'd purchase from cable or the Dish).

MEDICAL
In case you hadn't heard, I had the flu last weekend and it took me this long to begin to even feel remotely human again.  HAVING THE FLU SUCKS!

I was proud to say I have never had a cavity in my life.  At the last check up the dentist informed me I have a small cavity in a right back molar.  :(  Apparently it is so small she almost missed it on the X-ray.

PERSONAL
Todd and Zachary flew to FL to go visit a college that Zachary wants to attend.  The stories from that trip will be coming soon!

This Sunday we are celebrating Easter at Todd's parents home.  Todd's mom is still recovering from her broken hip, so this year she is having dinner catered.  It is going to be fun watching my nephew and nieces search for eggs.  My boys have stopped that tradition a few years ago.  They think they are too cool for an Egg Hunt.  Happy Easter to you all!

ADDICTIONS
Black Dagger Brotherhood series by JR Ward.  The new book came out on Tuesday.  I downloaded it on my Nook and have been reading a bit every night.  It takes so much will power to put the book down instead of reading all night long.

HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND!

Having the Flu SUCKS!

I hate getting the flu.  I woke up Saturday feeling great. I had a bunch of errands to run and was happy I had them done by lunch time.  Luckily I did get them done.  By 3 o'clock I was in the bathroom with the flu.  It hit me swiftly and hard.

I had a doozy of a migraine headache along with a fever and chills.  I felt like I had been hit by a truck.. then the truck backed up and did it again.  It was THAT bad!

I couldn't sleep, I couldn't lay still, I couldn't sit up, I couldn't watch TV.  All I could do was be MISERABLE!

Todd and Zachary were away looking at a college in FL.  Ahren and Brandon took very good care of me, the dogs and feeding themselves.   At one point I was passed out on the bathroom floor. Brandon came in and covered me with a blanket.  He brought me my cell phone and left a note.  It read "Mom if you need anything, call me."

By sunday the worst was over but I was very weak.  I couldn't get out of bed without my heart pounding or being out of breath.  There was NO WAY I was eating, but did manage to keep some water down.   I did, however, read two books.

Monday, I worked but it was a mistake.  (Hindsight is a wonderful thing). I barely made it through the day.  I ate a few popsicles and drank water.  I tried soup but only took three sips before my stomach wanted to revolt.

Tuesday, I am getting energy back.  I actually ate crackers, a granola bar and apple sauce.

Has anyone else caught this bug?  It's just absolutely ****ing fabulous.

If you have nothing nice to say… then come sit by me.

What is your reaction to this statement?
The first that comes to mind is the way my Mother spoke about people while I was growing up.  She was very criticalnegative and sometimes down-right mean.  It had a major impact on my life. In fact, I didn't realize I was repeating this behavior. It left me feeling angry, bitter, nasty and heartless.
I'm not sure when the light-bulb went off or when I had the revelation.   I think it was around the time I met my husband and his parents.  They were so loving, happy, considerate and made you feel loved.   I believe this is the point I realized it was not nice, or even healthy, to speak about people like that.
It was actually hard for me to turn my thought around and focus on the positive when it has been ingrained in me to only see the negative in life.  For me, looking at the world in a whole new light has been liberating.  Seeing the good in people has lifted my soul.  Loving others has given me peace.

Do you follow gossip; either within your own circle, or say Celebrity Gossip?
I definitely do not follow celebrity gossip.  I would like to say no, I do not follow gossip within my own circle - but that would not be an honest answer.  I am sure every one is guilty of it now and again.  I do not go out of my way to gossip or listen to it, but sometimes it is right there in my face.  I have learned to redirect the speaker onto another subject.

Is some gossip just idle chit chat and when kept between 2 parties basically harmless?
There is a difference between gossip and chit chat.  Gossip is a much deeper problem that involves speaking negatively about someone and judging them in a harsh manner.

How do you think gossip/rumours affect society as a whole?
Gossip and rumors are poison.   People gossip because they want to feel superior, they are envious, they want to feel better about themselves, for attention or even out of anger.

Tabloids are the worst!  Do I care that Jessica Simpson gained a few pounds or that Duchess Kate got her heel stuck in a grate?

Instead of sitting around examining the hardships and difficulties of others, let's talk about something positive in our own lives!

Remembering Nanny

September 5, 2004
Top 10 things I loved about my Nanny.

1. The way she served hot coca in a green tea cup and topped with whipped cream.
2. Every birthday she made me a Lemon Meringue Pie (my favorite).
3. The patience she had while teaching me how to crochet.
4. How devoted she was to my grandfather.
5. She was never afraid to say what was on her mind.
6. Her fiery spirit.
7. Her rose garden.
8. Her laugh.
9. My grandfathers nickname for her. "Lovey".
10. The never ending hugs and kisses she gave to me and my sisters.

March 20, 2014
A wife, a mother, a grandma too,
This is the legacy we have from you.
You taught us love and how to fight,
You gave us strength, you gave us might.
A stronger person would be hard to find,
And in your heart, you were always kind.
You fought for us all in one way or another,
Not just as a wife not just as a mother.
For all of us you gave your best,
Now the time has come for you to rest.
So go in peace, you’ve earned your sleep,
Your love in our hearts, we’ll eternally keep.

Nanny passed away March 14th and was buried next to my grandfather on March 20th.
I miss you Nanny & Poppop!

Friday Fragments

Mommy's Idea

TV
Brandon and I watched The Hobbit.  We both enjoyed it.  I didn't realize there are two more Hobbit movies coming out in the near future.

Hubby asked me if I liked Adam Levine's tattoos.
I'm sorry, but that is like asking your husband "Do I look fat in this dress?"  No matter what he says, he will be inserting his foot into his mouth.
I wisely did not answer.  Instead, let's listen to what Adam has to say about his own tattoos.

PERSONAL
Nanny's funeral was Wednesday.  It was a lovely service.  I am blessed to have a wonderful husband to lean on during this difficult time for me.  It was hard saying goodbye to my grandmother.

NEWS
I've read a lot of different reviews and site to join in lieu of Google Reader.  I picked Bloglovin' because it is very user friendly and looks pretty too!

MEDICAL
Todd has been since for almost a week.  Yesterday his heart was pounding, he couldn't catch his breath and he looked clammy.  He wasn't in pain, so I didn't think it was a heart attack, but his doctor told us to go to the ER.  The doctors in the ER were great!  He has a lot of bloodwork drawn, a chest X-ray and a respiratory doctor came in too.  His heart is in great shape. He was diagnosed with a touch of pneumonia and sent home with antibiotics.

ADDICTIONS
Wheat Thins came out with a new product called "Toasted Chips".  They claim to be 40% less fat than regular potato chips.  Problem is, I can't stop eating them until the bag is empty!

At least I have that McDonalds Sweet Tea to wash it down with.

Cruise Animals

One of highlights of our cruise was our talented room attendant!

He made all these creatures from towels.
Cool, right!

I Spy something with my little eye...

...that is....Green.

Two weeks ago the temperatures teased us by going into the high 50's.  Since then we have been having on and off again snow showers.  Temps have dropped to the 30s and 40s.

I really wish I'd spy a little more green!!

Join Les at Time Out For Mom to see if you can spy any more green.

Birthday Bash

My niece turned 6!
She is beautiful, quirky and has a stubborn streak you would not believe!

Our gift to her was a Brave dress up outfit
*snicker* complete with bow & arrows *snicker*.
That's a great thing about being an Aunt and Uncle….
we can buy all those toys that make parents cringe!

TV
Counting down the days! 10… count them….10 more days until THE VOICE!

AUNT TAMI'S HOUSE
I've been watching a 7 month old boy in my daycare.  I am EXHAUSTED!  One forgets how much work a baby can be!  He is only with me one more week. Then I can treat myself to a much needed mini vacation. :-)

Celebrating St. Patricks Day this week.  Leprechaun snack in a treat bag was a big hit!   Mix Lucky Charms (Leprechaun food), Corn Pops (gold) and mini M&Ms (rainbow).

MEDICAL
My father called me to let me know my Nanny passed away late last night.  I am glad I took the trip a few months ago to see her when she was still able to enjoy the visit.

Teddy's insulin count is still way too high. We visit the vet again tonight. Hopefully better news this time.

HOCKEY
Brandon's hockey season came to an end last weekend. Bittersweet. I will miss his games, but will enjoy the free weekends.

Flyers are in last place in the Atlantic Division. Boo!

NEWS
Did you hear the uproar Google is creating again by getting rid of Google Reader?  I'm kinda ticked off at Google. It seems as if they keep getting rid of products that I like and use! Grrrr.

ADDICTIONS
I ate way too many ranch/bacon fries this week!  But OH they were SO good!

Stopping by the McDonlad's drive thru for Sweet Tea is becoming a bad habit.

Happy Weekend Friends!

Name that song!

I was in the living room enjoying the much needed quiet time, reading a book when I heard this song coming from upstairs that sounded like it came from the 1980s.  It peaked my curiosity.

I was surprised to hear this ballad coming from my son's room.  I slowly opened the door… there he was doing homework…. listening to….

video

I know it's a short clip and hard to hear, but can you guess who? and what song it is?

Dogs get Diabetes too….

Teddy is a 11 year old spring spaniel, who is the best dog ever.

It seemed like overnight Teddy wasn't feeling well.  He could no longer jump up on our bed (I have to lift him from behind). He is loosing his footing when he tries to get up and down the steps. He was lethargic, panting heavily, drinking a lot of water and even peeing in the house. I also found a lump on the inside of his right thigh the size of a grapefruit.
I thought he may have a bladder infection.

I got him into the vet right away.  The vet thought the lump was a fatty mass and not a bladder infection.  They tested his urine to verify this.   The vet recommended removing the mass to see whether or not it would help with Teddy walking.

Next they did blood work and found that he has diabetes.  I was in shock.
It never occurred to me that a dog could get diabetes too.

The vet called in a prescription for insulin and needles.  I went to our local CVS to pick up the prescription.  I wasn't sure what to say when I went up to the counter.  Do I ask for "Teddy Miller", or do I say "Umm yeah, I have a script for my dog".
I explained the situation to the clerk. I was dumbfounded when he asked me for Teddy's date of birth so he could put Teddy "in the system".
Really?  It's not like Teddy is on our health insurance.
Anyway, I got the meds and my jaw dropped when I saw the price. $88.00 for the insulin and $15.00 for the needles. That, my friends, is for one month!
Since then, I have spoken to a friend who gets her dogs insulin from Walmart and it's a whole lot cheaper.

Every day I have to give Teddy 2 insulin shots. It has been difficult because he needs to eat a special food  before the shot is given AND the shots have to be 10 hours apart.

Teddy hates the new food.

I've tried putting gravy, chicken broth and even wet dog food mixed in it.  I have to be careful what I add to the food. It cannot have too high of a sugar content.   He is rebelling!
Any suggestions from the dog lovers out there??

Since the shots began, Teddy is doing better.  He still cannot jump up on our bed and is having difficulty walking up and down the steps.  This may be caused from the lump on his leg or arthritis.  We won't know until the lump is removed.  That operation cannot be scheduled until his diabetes is under control.

One thing at a time...
