Halloween Party

Every year I have a Halloween Party for the kids in my day care.
The games we played were Pin the Hat on the Witch and a Skelton Puzzle.
Ghost snack treat was a big hit!
(I found the idea on Pinterest).
After snack the kids enjoyed playing with balloons!
We even had a parade to show off the costumes.
The best part is taking home treat bags filled with so many goodies!
You can find more photos at Aunt Tami's House.

Happy Halloween!!

Getting into the Halloween Spirit! {Friday Fragments}

My boys think they are too old for Halloween. I am sad knowing they won't dress up, carry a treat bag, knock on doors and excitedly dump all their treats on the kitchen table.
~
Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays.  I'm not looking forward to it this year because I have to get a cavity filled at 6:30pm.  Right when the trick or treaters are ringing our doorbell.  On a day I am supposed to enjoy all the left over candy.
Ba Hum Bug!
~
Lucky for me, I run an in-home day care!  At our annual Halloween Party the children bring their costumes and dress up for a parade.
~
This weekend our family is getting together for dinner.  My nieces and nephews enjoy carving pumpkins and making crafts.  My boys are great at interacting with younger kids.  It's wonderful to see them enjoy time with their younger cousins.  We are going to make the Mummy Candles that I made with my day care kids.

He made Captain!

Brandon made Captain of both teams he plays for. His travel team (Valley Forge Colonials) and his high school team (Daniel Boone Blazers).
I am so very proud of Brandon and all the hard work he has done to earn the Captain status.

One problem.  I ironed the C on the wrong side of the jersey.
DOH!
This is a major catastrophe in the hockey world!
I was able to fix the C on the blue jersey with no problem.
The white jersey was another issue.
When I peeled the C off the jersey it left a blue outline of the letter.
For one week I tried so many different products to remove the dye,
it's a wonder the jersey hasn't fallen apart.

Products I tried:  bleach, Rit, white sharpie marker, white out, and paint.
I tried printing out a white square on transfer paper.  Nope, didn't work.
I took it to the dry cleaner and was told there was nothing they could do.
{sigh}
Any other ideas?
The travel team Brandon plays for developed a new website.
I was pleasantly surprised to see Brandon's picture on the left bottom corner on the home page.
Cool!!! Right?!?!

Brandon's travel team spent a weekend near Washington DC to participate in a tournament.
They didn't do well in the tournament.
Bummer!
We were thinking of sight seeing the Capitol, but it was the week the government was shut down.
Bummer!

Brandon spent some time in the penalty box
(that's his Dad, in the grey sweatshirt, manning the box).
I did not agree with the referee.  He said the penalty was for Interference.
I think the penalty should have been "the dude was in my face, so I dropped him".
The tournament wasn't all bad.  The boys had fun off the ice.
And I did get this really cool 'hockey mom' shirt!

His team is back practicing and getting ready for the next tournament in February.

Celebrating 70

Judy was surprised by her family with a 70th birthday party!

My friend, Heather made a 'quilt' cake for Judy.
Judy loves to quilt, so this was a perfect cake for her!
The grandchildren were Assistant-blower-out-candle-Helpers.

A Cheery {Wednesday Hodgepodge}

Everyone is welcome to join in the fun of Wednesday Hodgepodge!
~
1. What was your biggest worry five years ago?  Is it still a worry?
My oldest son graduated high school the year before.  School was difficult for him because of ADHD. Even so, he tried college.  He wasn't ready for it.  My husband and I worried that our son would not go back to school if he left the program he was in.  Currently our son has a full-time job and has not returned to school.  He admits he wishes he never left school.  It's never too late though!  I went back to school while my boys were young and received my degree in Early Childhood Education.

2. Yesterday (October 15th) was National Grouch Day...what makes you grouchy? What cheers you up when you're feeling grouchy?
Rainy weather.  I like the sun shinning and feeling the warmth on my face.  I like to curl on the couch and read on rainy days.  Life doesn't always give me that luxury though.

3.  In one word, how does it feel to be photographed?
SILLY   :-P

4. Besides your parents, who would you say had the greatest influence on you in choosing your life path?  Explain.
My high school teacher, Mr. Cressman.  Mr. Cressman showed me that I had potential in the educational field.  Before that I really had not interest in school.
My In-laws.  My In-laws showed me how to love and were role-models of parenthood.
My church's nursery child care program.  I worked in the nursery when my boys were infants and toddlers.  This sparked my interest in childhood education.

5. The crisp days of autumn are here ...what's something you like to eat, but only if it's crisp?
Do carrots count as 'crisp'?

6. What's the most useless object you own?
Grapefruit spoon.

7.  Share a favorite fall memory.
Pumpkin decorating contests.  It was a fun tradition for the boys.  It now continues with my young nieces and nephews.
8.  Insert your own random thought here.
I'm BACK!  I took some time off from blogging.  It was a stressful time period in my life and I didn't have the heart to do much at all.  I've decided that blogging gives me an outlet and helps soothe my soul.  Talking with my blog friends brings me peace.  I love you all!

Where did September go?

I disappeared from my blog world the entire month of September…

September was the end of the summer. Which means my day care kids who were gone for summer vacation are back.  In turn, my day becomes more hectic until we get back into a routine.

September began my duties as team manager to Brandon's hockey team.  I don't think anyone can realize how much time and effort goes into being a team manager.  It was overwhelming at first, but I'm getting the hang of it.

September was a month of grief.  The loss of Teddy was too much to handle.

September was not kind.

Now October is here…

October is the color change of the leaves.  I love all the pretty colors of fall.

October is full of pumpkins and treats.  I love decorating pumpkins and making fall decorations with the kids.

October is hockey, hockey, hockey!

October is spooky and scary.  Halloween is my favorite holiday of the year!

October is my month to heal.

I miss my Teddy Bear

August 31st, my beloved dog, Teddy passed away due to complications of diabetes. He went blind and was in a lot of pain towards the end.  Logically I know I did the right thing, but I am taking it very hard that I had to let him go. My heart is breaking.
Teddy was the best dog a person could want.
He was a gentle dog.  He was a happy dog.  He was perfect.
Teddy is/was my baby.  He was devoted to me and loved me unconditionally.  I miss the way he followed me around the house, I miss the way he would sing to me when I would come home, I miss him sleeping on our bed and the way he laid at my feet.  I miss HIM!  I want Teddy to come home, I want to hold him again, I want to tell him how much I love him.  I want HIM back!
Ellie Mae missed Teddy too.  For the first week he was gone she wasn't herself.
Slowly she started to be her spunky self again.
Now Ellie is the one who follows me around the house and has to be in the same room as me.
My husband wants me to get another puppy.  He doesn't like to see me so sad and thinks a puppy will help me heal.  I can't do it. I am not ready to open my heart up. Not yet.
~
I love you Teddy!
