Santa must be a hockey fan!

Santa must have thought I was a very good Hockey Mom this year!

I was sent a Hockey Mom necklace in the mail. It was wrapped in a pretty purple bag inside a purple bubble wrap envelope.  It had to be sent by someone who knows me, hence the purple packaging.  However, the return address was the company who made the necklace.

I don't have any idea who sent me such a lovely gift.
I have to assume it was from Santa-hockey-fan-Claus.
Thank you Santa.  I love the necklace!

Christmas Eve

This Christmas Eve went spent an evening with friends eating a homemade dinner, enjoying dessert and playing card games.

The yummy Santa snack didn't last long. It was THAT good!
Ingredients
  • strawberries
  • 100ml cream
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • mini chocolate chips
Instructions
  1. Whip the cream with the vanilla until soft peaks form.
  2. Put the cream in a piping bag fitted with a star tip (or use a sandwich bag and cut a tip off).
  3. Wash and dry the strawberries then cut the hulls off so that they stand up.
  4. Slice them in half and pipe some cream on top.
  5. Put the ‘hat’ back on and pipe a little more cream on the top.
  6. Add mini chocolate chips for eyes.

The man behind the lens

My son, Ahren picked up his dad's camera to record all the memories of Christmas day.
I don't think these photos will make the family album this year.
Although they are award winning photos, I don't think Ahren should quit his day job.
Merry Christmas!

Making Reindeer Feed

What is “Reindeer Feed” you ask?
It’s oats mixed with glitter that the kids sprinkle on the lawn on Christmas Eve to be sure that the reindeer don’t miss the house!
(Be sure the kids don’t eat the reindeer food!
Have you heard of this fun idea?
I learned of it when my boys were in elementary school.
I am definitely doing this one with my day care kids.
I know they will LOVE it!
~
Here’s what you need:
Paper lunch bags
Precut white, black and red circles (I used a circle punch)
Precut brown antlers (I had cut these)
Baggies
Oats
Sprinkles
Glitter
…and anything else you might want to add!
~
I added a tag and poem to attach to the bag.

It has once been said,
that right before you go to bed,
that you should wrinkle magic reindeer food,
to quickly bring Santa and his brood.
For many years the legend has been told,
to boys and girls, both young and old,
sprinkle the food through out your yard,
the finding your house won't be so hard!
The reindeer can smell the food for 100 miles,
Just do not leave it in big piles!
After you do this you must go to sleep very fast,
so Santa and his reindeer will not pass!
~

I also found a cute site that has cute pre-made tags.
The kids were so excited to take home their 'magic reindeer food' and sprinkle it on the lawn so that Santa's reindeer can find their homes.
Make sure you leave a carrot treat too!

Let it Snow! {Sunday In My City}

Here on the East Coast in Pennsylvania, we've been hit with two winter storms.
~
We were driving home after a hockey game when the first snow storm began.
My nieces and nephew came to watch their cousin, Brandon play hockey.
After arriving home, it kept snowing and snowing.
The second storm came in two parts: once late a night, letting up for rush hour, and then starting again around 11:30am.  It snowed the rest of the day.
Schools were closed one day and an 2 hour delay on another.
The second storm also brought a cold rain. Everything turned into ice.
Looks like we aren't going anywhere for awhile.
Thanks for taking a peek of my world.

Ice Cold {Wednesday Hodgepodge}

1. Do you believe in miracles?
Absolutely! I also believe things happen for a reason.  A perfect example I can think of is when my oldest was 5 years old and recently diagnosed with ADHD.  Back in 1995 much was not known about ADHD and I was literally freaking out.  At the same time I took a part-time job working in a nursery for a church other than my own.  The woman who ran the program knew a lot about ADHD, encouraged me not to be afraid and showed me where to begin in order to help my son.  God answered my prayers and sent me an angel.  A few months later my church offered me a position in their nursery.  I took that job and sadly, never saw my angel again.  Although her spirit remained with me.

2. What's a recent fad you admit to trying?
Twitter.   I try to keep up with it, but I just don't seem to get the hang of it.

3. Peppermint-are you a fan? If so, what's your favorite food or beverage containing peppermint?
Neutral I think.  I don't love it, nor hate it.  I do like peppermint gum.  I also use peppermint, eucalyptus and lavender oils when I have a head cold.  It's an alternative way to help clear up congestion without the use of so many medications.

4. Break the ice, on thin ice, as cold as ice (emotionally, not literally)...which phrase have you run into most recently? Explain.
Break the ice explains my husband.  He has a great sense of humor and gets a long with anyone.
On thin ice describes my son, who is currently grounded.
Cold as ice is how I would describe myself.  I hide my emotions from most people and can sometimes be hard to read.
Now, cold as ice… literally… YEP! That's definitely ME!  My husband shouts very loudly complains when cold hands and feet get in the vicinity of him under the bed covers.

5. Have you ever broken or spilled something in someone else's home? Still friends?
OMG! YES!  It's usually wine. LOL

6.  'Tis the week before Christmas...are you feeling more like Buddy the Elf or theGrinch before his heart grew?
Grinch.  I get stressed out trying to make everyones Christmas a perfect one. You'd think I'd learn after all these years…. but the perfectionist in me doesn't give in very easily.

7. Share a favorite quote relating to Christmas.

Santa Snack

In the Miller house a typical snack for Santa was tollhouse cookies and moo juice.  Of course carrots were left  for the reindeer.

If I was Santa, which I'm not….because he's real…. I'd want a heck of a better tasty treat than that!
I have a few suggestions on how to keep Jolly ole' St. Nick a bit happy!

First things first… Chocolate!
Purple Chocolat Home has many, many yummy recipes to die for!

Next…. Wine!

After those are gone…..

Can you get me some of this….. to go?

How about you?  If you were Santa, what would you want left for you?  Head over to Time Out For Mom, shall we, and see what tasty treats my friends came up with!
