As I become older it feels as if the time is flying by faster and faster. There are still 24 hours in a day, but my perception is that I am loosing track of time and the day is over before it begins.
As a young girl I could not wait to be 16 and have that sweet sixteen party, to graduate, to be 21 and party, to be a wife, to be a mother, to have my children potty trained, to have my children begin school…. next thing you know time has gone by so fast.
When you are young and waiting for a future event to happen, it seems as if the time goes by like molasses! As you become older you look back and think "Where did the time go?" or "My, how quickly our kids have grown!".
Any one can lose track of time or take for granted the time you have. It's sad to think that half of your life is gone before you even know what it is.
Slow down!
Do less. Focus on what is really important and let go of the rest.
Disconnect. If you carry around an iPhone or other mobile device, learn to leave it or turn it off. It's hard to slow down if you are always checking new messages coming in.
Appreciation. Don't miss out on telling people how much they mean to you. Hug your children and savor every moment.
"We're so busy watching out for what's just ahead of us that we don't take the time to enjoy where we are." ~Bill Watterson
I LOVE that quilt you closed with. So very true.
ReplyDeleteYes! So true. I have no idea where January went, but I am glad because it is one less month of winter. Not really a winter person. xo
ReplyDeleteYes! I am retired now so I have plenty of time to look back although I love the anticipation of what is coming especially cruises and babbies.
ReplyDeleteI've always been such a busy person. When I was younger, it wasn't enough to just be in Brownies/Girl Guides -- I had to take piano, guitar and skating lessons too. Then I found sports and that took up a lot of time.....but I also really wanted the lead in the school play and when I got that I has to rehearse at night after the sports. then homework. Then I wanted money so I added a job. Ha ha It seems my life has been one long multi-tasking event where I had to just try All The Stuff. LOL
ReplyDeleteNow......I'd really just like a nap. Completely okay to focus on one thing and let time slow down.
Love the quote!! perfection. Thanks for joining me!
That's so true -- I couldn't wait to be 16 and then 21. Now, it's like, what? I'm middle aged already??? That can't be right!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great list of ideas.... I completely agree with you.... especially the always being in a hurry when we were younger. It is time to stop and smell the roses, and maybe notice what color they are at the same time!
ReplyDeleteTime flies for me! It feels like just yesterday it was Christmas!
ReplyDeleteTime does go so much faster, and the days go by ridiculously fast. I love this post!
ReplyDeleteIt just keeps going faster and faster for me.
ReplyDeleteI hear ya! I don't want it to, but no one can stop it. It's just life.
ReplyDeleteThank you Rosey. I hope you visit again!
ReplyDeleteYes, I can't believe it's the end of January already!
ReplyDeleteThank you Brenda. I do appreciate more now that I am older. It's hard to explain that to my teen age boys. They look at me like I have two heads. :-D
ReplyDeleteNap. Now there is a foreign concept. :-D
ReplyDeleteCruises and babies! I love it!
ReplyDeleteNot a winter person, and yet you live in Alaska! Oh Ina, what am I going to do with you? ;D
ReplyDeleteA lightbulb went off when I read it.
ReplyDeleteI'm 6 years away from 50. And I am scared to death!
ReplyDeleteI loved this post. Thank you for the great reminder. I need to slow down and enjoy life more.
ReplyDeleteYou know that feeling when things seem to be coming together and making some strange sense of purpose? No? Yeah, I forget the last time too. Anyway, it seems today I've read 3 or 4 posts that all relate to this "smell the roses be happy" theme. Did I miss the memo?
ReplyDeleteHmmm. Maybe someone is trying to tell you something…
ReplyDeleteps. Did you ever get your package in the mail?
Thanks Ashlee. The best advice I can give, is to enjoy your little guys while you can! xo
ReplyDeleteGreat post. I love being in the moment and savoring time away. It's easier said than done.
ReplyDeleteI agree. It is easier said than done.
ReplyDeleteYour question got me going. I'm thinking I remember putting a thank-you in the comment section. Then I was thought, "oh no wrong blog?" I found the comment it was on your Jan. 22 post. Maybe you got busy or Disqus dropped the email notice of the comment. Well Thank you again that was very sweet.
ReplyDeleteThat is so true. How did we get to this day so quickly? Half a life went so slowly at first but then passed us somehow.
ReplyDeleteI am not constantly checking my cell phone. I guess that makes me not normal, but I enjoy having a life offline. And I rarely watch television. There are just so many other things to do.
I found the comment. Seems as if there are quite a few comments on my blog and yet did not go to email. I check message threw email vs. the computer. My Bad! I'm glad you got the gift!
ReplyDeleteno problem - right now it seems Disqus has not pick-up a few comments left on a post of mine. The email notice has failed before for me.
ReplyDeleteGreat spin on the prompt and sound advice too. I love being disconnected and just enjoy my time.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right....omg I miss my free time. I wanted a job and I love it but I miss the free time I had to blog and do nothing. I feel now the time goes even faster. I feel like Katelyn was a baby yesterday....life is a blink of an eye isn't it! Happy Tuesday! xo
ReplyDeleteOh, how true.....and then one day you're past the half way point of your life and time starts being really precious!
ReplyDelete"Time flies"...truer words were never spoken! The older I get, the more precious time has become. Great post!
ReplyDeleteMe too! I'll be 44 in July.
ReplyDeleteIt's all a matter of perspectives. When one is two, a year is half of a life, so it seems like a very long time. When one is ten, it's one-tenth of a life, still not much. When one is fifty, sixty, seventy, etc. a year is nothing.

I agree. It is easier said than done.
ReplyDeleteThanks Paul. Looks like you you know how to enjoy your time!
ReplyDeleteDo nothing… ahhhhh…. Sounds lovely! I'm glad you love your job. That makes a huge difference when working full time.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about feeling like the kids were babies yesterday. I miss those days. However, I do not miss the lack of sleep! :)
Time is beginning to sink in. Precious time are perfect words to describe it.
ReplyDeleteSo true Joyce! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeletedisconnecting from it all is such a great remedy for slowing down. i find myself trying to step away from my phone/computer more often some days.
ReplyDeletethis was an awesome post! <3<3<3
maria
Thank you Maria. Ever since I got hooked on an iPhone, I am finding myself being addicted to things that take up time I could have spent more wisely. I am getting better about turning it off.
ReplyDeleteI am definitely learning to slow down, appreciate, and savor. And I am good at letting others know how much I appreciate them. Still, I managed to blink one too many times and my kids were all grown up. It's so bittersweet.
ReplyDeleteBeing off of work (like I've been the past 2 months, helps) I'm kind of afraid to go back. I don't want to lose all of the "in the moment" times we've been having.
