Mad March {Wednesday Hodgepodge}

1. The expression 'mad as a March hare' originated with a fictional character who is distracted and frantic. When were you last 'mad as a March hare' and what was it that made you that way?
The night my son got injured during a hockey game.  I was absolutely frantic and thought I'd have to take him to the ER.  My 'mommy' mode kicked in.  I was so focused on my son that I found myself not being able to pay attention to the people around me who were trying to talk to me.  Things went in one ear and out the other.

The ungodly amount of snow is driving me crazy too.  This winter has been out of control with the numerous snow storms.  I don't know how the upper part of the US and Canada handle it!  When a snow storm is predicted I am one of the crazy people who goes grocery shopping like it's the end of the world.  I also get distracted with the preparation of a storm and shoveling that I forget to stop and enjoy the beauty of the snow.

2. Mardi Gras this year falls on Tuesday, March 4th. Have you ever been to Mardi Gras, and if so what did you think? If not, do you have any interest in going?  Purple, green, and gold are the colors of Mardi Gras. Which one is most prevalent in your wardrobe? How about in your home?
I've never been to Mardi Gras and I have no interest.  The news stories I have viewed makes the event look like a drunken party in the streets of New Orleans.
Purple is my favorite color.  Most of my wardrobe is grey, black, white and purple.  How drab that must seem!  I do have a few other colors thrown in their too.  =)

3. Are you old fashioned?
I think it depends on the topic.

Such as, I believe it's important for a mother (or father) to stay home with their children when they are at a young age.  (Please note: That doesn't mean I think both mother and father working makes them horrible parents).

I believe that the entire family should sit together for dinner.  It creates a family bond and a verbal communication that seems to be lost in the technological age.

Does that make me old fashioned or make my views a personal choice?

4. Do you carefully plan your vacations, or do you prefer the days to be more spontaneous?
I am a control freak.  If I don't have all the details lined up, I feel like I am losing my mind.  Spontaneous is my husbands forte.

5.  March is National Sauce Month...what's your favorite sauce, and what do you most often top with this sauce?
National Sauce Month? Who comes up with these ideas?
I like Vodka sauce on my pasta.  I use a Rachael Ray recipe that I think is to die for!

6.  What's something that easily brings a tear to your eye?
Children or animals being abused.  I immediately tear up, then I get mad. Furious actually. I do not understand what people are thinking or how they can even raise a hand to an innocent person or animal.  It's cruel, horrible and unacceptable! It makes me sick!

7. If you could own any sports team, which one would it be and why?
For those of you who know me, know it's a no brainer.  The Philadelphia Flyers.
1. I love hockey.
2. I live near Philly.
3. I have grown up watching the Flyers.
4. I love hockey!

8.  Insert your own random thought here.
I feel sorry for my son not being able to finish out his hockey season.  His high school team has been in first place the entire season and are in the play offs.  It's tough watching him not playing and knowing how difficult it is for him not to be on the ice.
Not to brag (alright, I'm bragging), but Brandon is a very good hockey player.  His defensive skill is sorely missed.

8 pretty purplexing comments:

  1. I know how difficult that must be for your son to not be able to play hockey right now. My oldest daughter was the #1 runner on her high school cross country team and, in her senior year, got terrible shin splints and couldn't run in the state meet. We were all heartbroken, but you get through it and are stronger because of it.

  2. No one mess with mama when her baby is hurt! I knew you would choose purple and I agree with one drunken party going on. I'll have to check out that Vodka sauce.

  3. I've never been to a hockey game and know nothing about it! Purple is my favorite color too. I don't have any desire to go to Mardi Gras either

  4. I think the general consensus is that people do not want to go to New Orleans during Mardi Gras. Ha.
I LOVE Vodka sauce! I'd forgotten about that.

  5. I think it's amusing that none of us want to go to Mardi Gras!
We live about a mile from the local Ice Arena and my daughter goes to her friends hockey games frequently but I have had enough cold, the thought of sitting in that arena is more then I can face. You see, I live in one of those northern tier states and am oh so sick of the cold & snow!

  6. Aw, sorry to hear that your son got hurt. That's a tough break--for him and for the team.

  7. Such a tough break for Brandon -- I remember times of sitting on the sidelines feeling helpless to contribute to your team due to an injury. IT Sucks Big! no 2 ways about it.

If buckets of snow for 7 months is all you've ever known -- it just becomes the way of life. And people more South than us have to remember: most of us Learned to drive in the snow, so it's like second nature.

I don't think those things make your old fashioned; I think they make you wise. I don't think anyone could argue against either one of those 2 things; surely it's common sense to know that children would do best with one parent at home while they are young, and that family meal time is important. It's just life does prevent some of us from having that be our "normal" -- but we all just do the best we can.

  8. You and I have a lot in common! Same wardrobe colors....same "Old fashioned" beliefs. But for #4 we are opposite, hubby is the planner. I'm the spontaneous one! I do want to go to Mardi Gras's on my bucket list!
