Super Moon

The moon is a familiar sight in our sky, brightening dark nights and reminding us of space exploration, past and present. But the Super Moon — on Monday, Nov. 14 — will be especially “super” because it’s the closest full moon to Earth since 1948.
My husband was able to capture these gorgeous photos of the Super Moon.  I love how you can see the different colors and make out the craters.

We won’t see another Super Moon like this until 2034.

The British are Coming!

A major party of American history was the Revolutionary War.   The early American legend tells us the Paul Revere road through the streets of Boston yelling "The British are coming!"  When in fact this is a myth.
In fact, Paul Revere never yelled "The British are coming!".  It wouldn't make much sense because  the majority of residence in Boston were mostly British during that time period.  (I'm kind of a geek when it comes to Early American History and it helps to know my husband, the history teacher).
Once I asked my husband "Why would Paul Revere shout "The British are coming!"
Weren't they were already here??
=)
Todd and I went to a re-inactment at the Daniel Boone Homestead.
It was a very hot day. I couldn't imagine wearing wool uniforms in this heat.
The re-inactment was held at the Daniel Boone Homestead.
Daniel Boone is one of America's famous frontiersmen.
He moved his family to this homestead in 1730.
NBC aired a television show in the 1960s about Daniel Boone.
That is before my time, so I can't say if it was an accurate portrayal of Daniel Boone or not.
The re-inactment was a really neat experience.   It's one thing to read about the RevolutionaryWar and it's another thing to see it! At the end of the re-inactment the "troops" spoke to the crowd and answered questions any one had.

One boy asked, "Why did the British wear red?"

The 'soldier' had an interesting answer.  He said that when the muskets were fired, there was always a lot of smoke.  The bright colors helped the soldiers determine who was a friend or foe.
Interesting little tidbit I didn't know. (I told you I was a history geek!).

Cruise Animals

One of highlights of our cruise was our talented room attendant!

He made all these creatures from towels.
Cool, right!

Ever melt a pair of jumper cables?

I know what you are thinking.
What? How can you melt jumper cables??

Oh my friends, I assure you it can be done!

Let me tell you a story…..

For the last few months we have been teaching our son, Zachary to drive an automatic car.
However, the car he will be driving is manual.

Todd thought it would be a good idea to take Zachary to a parking lot with the intention of teaching him how to drive a stick shift.

Zachary's car has been sitting, not being used since the beginning of the summer.  So when it would not start today, Todd didn't think anything of it and he asked the neighbor for a jump.

Todd and Zachary went on their merry way.

Upon Zachary's first try, he stalls the car.  If you don't know about stick shift, stalling it is not uncommon, especially while learning how to drive it.
Problem though ~ the car would not re-start.
The guys called me to come "jump" the car, thinking the battery had died. Again.

We had no luck.  So Todd and I drove to Pepboys to purchase a new battery.
$100.00 and 40 minutes later…..

Todd showed Zachary how to install a new battery.
AND
we tried to start the car.
No luck!

Considering we are not mechanics, we thought "maybe we should try to jump the car again".
Not our finest moment.

This time both cars spark when Todd puts the jumper cables on the clamps.
Then both cars begin to smoke and catch on fire!

Apparently if you do not match the positive and negatives, this is what a car will do.

HE FRIED THE JUMPER CABLES!
I'M NOT SURE HOW THEY CAN MELT…
BUT THEY DID!

We called in the calvary.
Our friend found a fuse that was loose and Viola!
**Car started like a charm**

I think Zachary learned a valuable lesson and will never mix up the + and - signs while jumping a car.

The Canopy is UP!

FINALLY!
Hubby and I put the canopy up this weekend.  It went much easier than me trying to do it myself.  If I wasn't so impatient... that is one of my faults, what can I say?

My hubby was placing the metal stakes in the ground and ended up bending one. **teehee**  He doesn't know his own strength.  I am a sucker for this big, tall, strong and handsome man who patiently puts up with me (and who buys me shoes too!).

Last year we put up a $70.00 canopy.  It didn't last because of a wind storm that bent the poles into a twist of metal everywhere.  Our area gets really bad wind.  It was open farm land at one time and there are not enough grown trees to block the wind. Our yard backs up into the woods, but even that doesn't stop the wind.

This year we spent more than double the price of a canopy hoping that this one would stand up to the weather.  The poles are stronger and the top has an opening so that wind can go thru it without lifting the entire thing up.

Here it is!  **Ta Da** The expensive better quality canopy that better not bend in the freakin' wind!

In case you didn't notice - there is a hockey stick on the ground that our dog decided to carry around like a bone or stick.  Even our dog loves hockey!
