Conversations with Zachary {Michael Jackson and 50 Shades of Grey}

Zachary:
I know you are not with the time music wise, as in you listen to pop like Maroon 5.

Ouch!

But I got a few questions. First did you hear the new Weeknd song? "Can't Feel My Face"?  Sounds like MJ. But towards this generation.
I mean his sound is so unique even comparing him to MJ is a compliment, because he's not trying to be MJ, but he has the voice that is just crazy.
I'm saying if you haven't,  please listen to it now.
"The Weeknd - can't feel my face" you don't have to enjoy the lyrics but his voice is blessed.

ME:
Okay.

I found it on you-tube. Not bad!

Zachary:
I want to know what you think of that song. Cause I know you might feel the vibe and I got another song for that is from a pop singer but it had the vine beat and flow wise that I love. And if I can really bump this song I'm sure there is a chance you might like it but different to you. But The Weeknd song you'll like more .

ME:
You're right. Reminds me of Michael Jackson.  But I like this guys voice better.

Zachary:
I'm not comparing them cause if you listen to the songs he has. It is completely different.  His songs are about drugs and women and all that, Explicit, but you can hear the MJ influence.

ME:
It's not my style of music, but it was good.

HEY!  They sing a song in 50 Shades of Grey!

Zachary:
You just realized this??  I didn't even watch the movie and I knew.

I recall just being told I am not with it music wise.... and he is surprised??!!  I am impressed with myself that I recognized the singer!!

Zachary:
Now listen to Selena Gomez ft A$AP "Good For You".  I'm curious what you think of that. Cause it has a pop feel but more rap with a slow vibe but singing. Her pop fans love it and the vibe is what I look for in rap music. So I can't help but like it.

Found that one on You-tube also.  Liked it!

ME:
I like that one.

Zachary:
Did you hear it before or you just listen?

ME:
Just listened to it.  I don't listen to the radio, so I don't know any of these songs.

Zachary:
I don't listen to girl artists. But this has me comming back. And trust me I don't listen to the radio. But I keep up to what The Weeknd does cause I'm a fan.

I guess paying for him to go to an University that focuses on music and audio production was a wise choice!

Name that song!

I was in the living room enjoying the much needed quiet time, reading a book when I heard this song coming from upstairs that sounded like it came from the 1980s.  It peaked my curiosity.

I was surprised to hear this ballad coming from my son's room.  I slowly opened the door… there he was doing homework…. listening to….

Last song...

If there was one song that you could listen to for the rest of your days; or, it was the last song you'd ever hear: What song would you play?

I would pick our wedding song: Beautiful in my Eyes by Joshua Kadison.

You're my peace of mind in this crazy world.
You're everything I've tried to find, your love is a pearl.
You're my Mona Lisa, you're my rainbow skies,
and my only prayer is that you realize
you'll always be beautiful in my eyes.

The world will turn and the seasons will change,
and all the lessons we will learn will be beautiful and strange.
We'll have our fill of tears, our share of sighs.
And my only prayer is that you realize
you'll always be beautiful in my eyes.

You will always be beautiful in my eyes.
And the passing years will show
that you will always grow ever more beautiful in my eyes.

When there are lines upon my face from a lifetime of smiles,
and when the time comes to embrace for one long last while,
we can laugh about how time really flies.
We won't say goodbye 'cause true love never dies.
You'll always be beautiful in my eyes.

You will always be beautiful in my eyes.
And the passing years will show
that you will always grow ever more beautiful in my eyes.
The passing years will show that you will always grow
ever more beautiful in my eyes.

Take those records off the shelf...

My son, Zachary wants to go to college for music / audio recording.  I didn't realize how much is actually involved in this field. He will be studying how to record audio in a studio and add it to a product - such as a commercial, video game, movies, etc.  Zachary spends most of his waking hours on his computer, digitally recording all types of music and sounds.  He has microphones, drums, keyboards and other pieces of equipment I have no idea what they are or what they do.

Today Zachary asked me if I had 'old' music he could listen to.  I disregarded the 'old' part and dug out my 45's from my teenage years.  Every weekend my sisters and I would walk to a local store called 'Downtown Records and Tapes'.  I looked forward to buying a new 45 each weekend.  I kept my 45's in this metal box.
Before you snicker… the Trojans were the mascot at my high school.
~
After dusting off the covers, Zach and I tried playing a few records.  I had to show Zachary the settings of the record player.  He laughed when I sped up the 45's on the higher speed.  Most of them skipped and scratched.  Zach's face was priceless when he heard the hideous sound music coming from the record player.  It was cute watching him try to lift the needle up and put it back on the arm rest.  My gosh, the record player must look like an antique to him!

Check out the 80's hair-do.
Egads, I wanted to dress like her too!

The Boss!  Who didn't love Bruce Springsteen.

I liked MJ before all his crazy life-style nonsense occured.

I bought this one because I loved the Top Gun movie.
Tom Cruise was delicious!

This song by Survivor was a popular in Philly because the Rocky movies were made right here, in the city of brotherly love.

Anyone know this guy?
Jack Wagner
He played Frisco on General Hospital.
He was a heart throb to my teenage heart!
Horrible singer, though.

What was I thinking when I bought this?

Music sure has evolved since I was a teenager.  Some of it good, some of it not so good. But I'm sure my parent said that about my music too!
