2 tough questions

I am not big on forwarding emails and don't really like when people send them to me.  Last week I did receive an email and decided  I had to share it with you.  Please read it and let me know what you think.

Question 1:
If you knew a woman who was pregnant,
Who had 8 kids already,
Three who were deaf,
Two who were blind,
One mentally retarded,
And she had syphilis,
Would you recommend that she have an abortion?

Read the next question before looking at the response for this one.

Question 2: It is time to elect a new world leader, and only your vote counts..
Here are the facts about the three candidates.
Candidate A: Associates with crooked politicians, and consults with astrologists.
He's had two mistresses.
He also chain smokes
And drinks 8 to 10 martinis a day.
Candidate B: He was kicked out of office twice,
Sleeps until
noon,
Used opium in college
And drinks a quart of whiskey every evening.
Candidate C: He is a decorated war hero.
He's a vegetarian,
Doesn't smoke,
Drinks an occasional beer
And never committed adultery.

Which of these candidates would be our choice?

Decide first ... No peeking, and then scroll down for the response.

Candidate A is Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Candidate B is Winston Churchill.

Candidate C is Adolph Hitler.

And, by the way, on your answer to the abortion question:

If you said YES, you just killed Beethoven.

Pretty interesting isn't it?
Makes a person think before judging someone.

Remember:
Amateurs ... Built the ark.
Professionals ... Built the Titanic

The Canopy is UP!

FINALLY!
Hubby and I put the canopy up this weekend.  It went much easier than me trying to do it myself.  If I wasn't so impatient... that is one of my faults, what can I say?

My hubby was placing the metal stakes in the ground and ended up bending one. **teehee**  He doesn't know his own strength.  I am a sucker for this big, tall, strong and handsome man who patiently puts up with me (and who buys me shoes too!).

Last year we put up a $70.00 canopy.  It didn't last because of a wind storm that bent the poles into a twist of metal everywhere.  Our area gets really bad wind.  It was open farm land at one time and there are not enough grown trees to block the wind. Our yard backs up into the woods, but even that doesn't stop the wind.

This year we spent more than double the price of a canopy hoping that this one would stand up to the weather.  The poles are stronger and the top has an opening so that wind can go thru it without lifting the entire thing up.

Here it is!  **Ta Da** The expensive better quality canopy that better not bend in the freakin' wind!

In case you didn't notice - there is a hockey stick on the ground that our dog decided to carry around like a bone or stick.  Even our dog loves hockey!

Friday Fragments

Joining up with Mrs. 4444's Friday Fragments

This week has been a very hectic one.  In fact I haven't even had time to blog.  I hate that. I feel like I am missing out on all the blog gossip for the week.

  • I got contacts for the first time.  Of course I am a challenge for the eye doctor.  I was prescribed on far-sighted contact and one near-sighted contact.
    • I feel like I am walking around with one blurry eye.  It's the weirdest thing.
    • I also think the contact that is supposed to help me see farther away isn't strong enough.
    • So not only do I have one blurry eye, I have another eye that is fuzzy.
    • AND I CAN'T GET THE DARN THINGS IN OR OUT OF MY EYES WITHOUT CAUSING SOME SORT OF PAIN!
    • I go back to the eye doctor on Tuesday.
  • I am being interviewed by a new parent tonight for my in-home childcare.
    •  Three of my little ones are moving up in the world and are headed off to school.
    •  Cross your fingers!
  • I had a doctor appointment last night and found out I gained 7 pounds since last month.
    •   I was not a happy camper!
  • FLYERS BEAT THE PENGUINS!  Moving onto round 2 against the NJ DEVILS!
    • Not only are the Flyers and Devils rivals on the ice, but off the ice rivals in our home.  Most of our family routes for the Flyers - however, I have one ding dong son that cheers for the Devils.  I can't figure out what I did wrong as a parent to have that happen??
    • All I have to say is BRING IT ON NEW JERSEY!  WOOT! WOOT!
  • Hubby and I have a date tonight.
    • Going to dinner and then a movie.
    • 'The Raven' starring the really hot actor, John Cusack.
    • Review will be upcoming.
Have a Great Weekend!

Wednesday Hodgepodge

Thank you to Joyce at From This Side Of The Pond for hosting Wednesday Hodgepodge.

1. William Shakespeare's birthday is celebrated on April 23rd...when did you last read Shakespeare? What's your favorite Shakespeare play?
Oh boy! It was a very long time ago. I believe high school.  My favorite is Romeo & Juliet.

2. What food(s) would you recommend a foreign visitor try when they visit your home country?
We had an exchange student from Germany stay with us for three weeks.  He was surprised that we ate dinner at home as much as we did.  He said the teachers warned them that American's are always on the go and don't eat as a family.  I asked him if he wanted to try something specific and he said, no. He was there to experience an every day American life.

3. What's a lie you often tell yourself?

4. What's something you're good at that might surprise us? Remember this is a family friendly blog!
I can crochet.  My Nanny taught me when I was about 12 years old. I have made countless blankets over the years.

5. Who is your favorite animal character from a book?
Biscuit. Who wouldn't love this cute adorable puppy?

6. April showers bring May flowers...do you have a green thumb?
Yes indeed! This is one thing I am proud of.  I love my flower gardens and vegetable garden.

7. Speaking of rainy days...which one of the following activities would you most want to spend time doing on a rainy day-
When the mood strikes...

sort photos and create albums
bake cookies
read a good book
hold an all-day movie marathon
organize closets, cupboards, or bookshelves
try a new recipe
fix something that needs fixing

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Litter Bug!

Sunday was Earth day.
It isn't as hard as you think to explain litter to 2 & 3 year olds.
I placed crumbled pieces of newspaper through out the room and they went around picking up the trash.   Then we took some of the crumpled newspaper and made 'litter bugs'.

We talked about keeping things clean so that we can keep the Earth happy.
The Earth was a hard concept for them to grasp, so I talked more about things they would understand, such as playgrounds and oceans at the beach.

We ended by singing a fun, catchy song about no more litter.

Dang it!

Dang it! I've been tagged.

Friday Fragments

Joining up with Mrs. 4444's Friday Fragments

*Flyers had an embarrassing loss against the Penguins on Wednesday evening.  10-3 OUCH!

*I bought a Coleman 13 x 13 backyard shade canopy.  I want to shade an area where the kids play.  It requires two people to put it together.  I decided to try it myself. (I am a very impatient person and couldn't wait a few mere hours until my husband got home).  While I was extending it, two poles bent in a horrible fashion and snapped off.  My bad!
Now I have to return it and try again… this time with my husband.
* I volunteered to be the 'team manager' for Brandon's upcoming hockey team.  I am an organizational freak, so this is right up my alley!

* My husband surprised me this week and brought home a sexy pair of high heel sandals.  I LOVE HIM and LOVE THE SHOES!

Have a fabulous weekend!

Purple Drank

Have you ever heard of Purple Drank?
It is an illegal drink that is popular in the rap community.  The main ingredients consists of prescription strength cough syrup, containing codeine and promethazine, along with Sprite or fruit juice.
The purple-ish hue of Purple Drank comes from the dyes in the cough syrup.
If prescription cough syrup isn't available, over-the-counter cough syrup is mixed with vodka.
Apparently this drink goes back as far as 1960 in the southern states.  A rapper made a song about Purple Drank in 2000 which made it popular throughout the country.  A former Oakland Raider was arrested and other people have been known to die from it.

I just don't get it.

Wednesday Hodgepodge-Spring!

Joining Joyce at From This Side Of The Pond for Wednesday Hodgepodge.

1. Spring is in the air (at least in my neck of the woods) and the birds are singing...what's your favorite bird?
Cardinals. I love the bright red color amongst the spring flowers.

2. Speaking of birds...do you tweet? If so tell us your screen name and we'll come flocking to your Twitter site. Even if you don't let's all pretend here that we do-in 140 characters or less, sum up your week so far.

I do, but I just post my blog to it.  I really don't see the point of it.

3. Its been reported recently that employers are not only viewing the facebook pages of potential hires but they're also requesting your facebook password to have a look at what you've kept from public view. What say you?

I don't post that much on facebook any more.  I prefer to blog.  Give up my password? NEVER.

4. It's April and you know what that means-Major League Baseball is back in action. What's your favorite baseball movie? If that's too hard, what's your favorite sports themed movie?

I am not really into baseball. I can't sit still that long.  My favorite sports movie is 'Miracle'.  It's about hockey, of course.

5. Something else this season brings-asparagus. Yes please or no thanks? If it's yes please what's your favorite way to have it prepared?

Yes I love asparagus, but only if it's grilled.  My husband likes to toss it with olive oil, salt and pepper.

6. What drives you? (Don't you love how I sandwiched that one in between asparagus and jugglers???)

My kids, my husband, love...

7. April 18th is International Jugglers Day...can you juggle?

Are you kidding me?  NO!

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Dumb Drug Dealer

I was watching the news last night and the funniest story was reported.

An officer pulled over a man for a broken tail light. When the officer looked in the car he found a large bag of marijuana.  The man was searched and that was when the officer noticed a "large bulge" in the front of the man's pants.

The drug dealer had the balls to deny he had any drugs on his possession.

Back at the station police discovered the man had tied 89 bags of cocaine and heroin to his PENIS!
Then when officers tried to remove the drugs, the guy peed!  EEWWW!

Gotta give the guy credit for being creative.  ;-)

The man was charged with drug possession, but no charges were filed for whizzing.

Joining up with Mrs. 4444's Friday Fragments

This week had it's ups and downs.

  • My best friend's son, Zak has played hockey with Brandon for five years.  This year Zak tried out for a new team.
    • Great opportunity for Zak. I am very excited for him!

  • Brandon has an opportunity to try out for a new team.
    • Great opportunity for Brandon. I am excited for him too!
    • Brandon told me last night he changed his mind and doesn't want to do it.
  • Some of the children in my child care service will be going to Pre-K in September.
    • I wont be as stressed with less children.
    • The loss of income has me worried.
  • I love Vampire Diaries!
    • I was able to download the current season on iTunes.
    • What in the world will I do when the season is over and have to wait until September for the new season to begin!

Minute Men

Since Brandon was 7 years old he has played hockey.  When he was 9 he joined the Valley Forge Colonial team and has played for them since.  Last week Brandon tried out for the Minute Men ice hockey team.  The Colonials is a Tier 2 team and Minute Men are a Tier 1 team.

  • Explanation for those who don't know what that means in the hockey world.
    • Tier 1 is the highest level of play, followed by Tier 2, then in-house clubs.
    • Tier 1 teams are generally more competitive and play at a higher level.
    • Tier 1 travels outside the geographic area.
    • Tier 1 is a huge commitment of time and the money is more significant.
We did not want Brandon to join a Tier 1 team during his younger years.  We wanted him to play to have fun, gain a love for the game and enjoy childhood.  Our philosophy is that there would be plenty of time for intense competitive sports in the teenage years and we did not want to make sure Brandon was burned out before then. This philosophy worked for Brandon so far.

Okay, back to the tryouts…
Brandon got injured the first night of tryouts.  He sprained his shoulder and couldn't play hockey for a week.  We were all bummed that his first attempt at Tier 1 did not work out.

However
Today I got a call from the Minute Men.  They want Brandon to skate at the first practice this Saturday because there is a spot open for a defenseman.

WAHOOOOO!

I am crossing my finger for him and will be on pins and needles until Saturday.  If he makes the team I will be happy for Brandon.  If he does not make the team I must remind my son that at the end of the day its not the best hockey players that play at the highest levels of the sport, its the best athletes that decide to play hockey.

The Works!

In 1892 a Textile Machine Works factory was founded and prospered until it closed in 1957.  In April of 2003 this former textile machine company was transformed, renovated and opened as “The Works”.   "The Works" boasts an extra large game room for adults and kids.  It has a family friendly restaurant and a party room.  The newest addition is called the Ballocity, with tubes, slides, foam ball launchers and more.

My niece, Morgan celebrate her 5th birthday at "The Works".  Mom & Dad invited her Pre-Kindergarten class.  She had so much fun as well as the other kids.

After cake and pizza my other niece, Maddox went off to have her own fun.  I didn't get many pictures of her because I couldn't find her!   It's a good thing her mom was shadowing along Max.

My nephew Tyce is 15 months old.  He has curly blonde hair like Brandon did as a toddler.
Brandon found a game that you could shoot hockey pucks at and it would rate your speed.  Cousin Brandon showed Tyce how to use a hockey stick.

Brandon and Uncle Todd played a game that won Morgan a lot of tickets.  The more tickets you won, the better a prize you get when you trade your tickets in.

By the end of the party I was ready for a nap.

Robbie Glantz Clinic

Brandon had a great opportunity to help out during a Robby Glantz Hockey Clinic.
Robby Glantz is a power skating coach for NHL teams such as: the LA Kings, Anaheim Ducks & Atlanta Thrashers.  He specializes is teaching and motivating you hockey players worldwide.
Zak & Brandon

Zak is a friend and fellow teammate of Brandon's.  Both of them had a lot of fun.

It was Brandon's first time participating in a youth hockey program.  I was proud to see him in a 'coaching' role.  He interacted with the youth during drills and instructions.
Not only was this a wonderful moment, but it will also look impressive on a college application.
