CRASH!

I suppose when you have a teenage drive in the home having a minor accident comes with the territory.

It was a nice day outside and I wanted my day care kids to ride bikes in the driveway.  I asked Zach to move my car and I would move Todd's car.  Normally Todd's car wouldn't have been there, but he got a ride with a fellow co-worker that day.

I parked Todd car on the street while Zach took my car around the block because he isn't good at parallel parking yet.  After I parked I went inside the house to get the kids jackets one.

Meanwhile, as Zach pulled in behind Todd's car, he hit the gas pedal instead of the brake.  Zach walked in the house and said very calmly, "Mom I hit Dad's car".

I was expecting a fender bender, not what I saw when I walked out the front door.  The right-front of my car was up on the curb and the left-front was smashed into the rear of Todd's car.

OOPS!
I was either calm or in shock, because all I kept saying was "Oh my God!"  Zach replies "I guess Dad should have drove to work today".  Sorry Todd, but I had to smirk.

My car sits up higher and hardly had a scratch on it.  Todd's car, however, had a smashed trunk and bumper.

I called Todd at work and I have to give him credit it for handling it well (considering he just got the car in May of this year).  All he said was "I guess I should have drove to work today." :-D

  1. Oh my. well thankfully he was only parking so there was no injury to himself.
but shows you how easy an accident can happen. I had a little incident involving one of our side mirrors while backing out of the garage. I was so paranoid about not hitting something on one side of the garage, that I subconsciously was moving the wheel to the other side and ....DING. I looked to see what I had hit....but couldn't see anything behind me. Cuz, no more mirror. LOL

  6. I have done this myself! I was trying to put hubby's car next to the van in the garage for a battery jump. We did get the battery jumped, only after I messed up both vehicles' fenders :-(

I am also the teen that redecorated my father's truck ;-). Good job staying calm!

  7. WOW Good for you guys for remaining calm through the whole thing! My parents would have had a conniption fit! But hey, accidents happen right? I've definitely had my share.

  8. I had my share of mishaps when I was a teenager (backed up instead of going forward when the door was stuck in the dirt on the curb, backed into a car in a parking lot, and backed up in our driveway - into the side ditch -- hmmm, I see a theme here - ha!). I'm impressed with how well you guys handled that. ;-)

  9. Oh! Man! Do I feel your pain!!!! I have two teenage drivers! Uggg! One son has crashed up 3 cars. THREE!!!! Thank God no one was hurt and they were all done in a parking lot. I worry every time this kid is out driving. My sister hit a garage one time trying to pull into it. She has many crash stories. My mom hit my parked car a couple of months ago. Oh! The stories go on!!! My husband calls us the "Finnell Demolition Team" my husband is not very nice. LOL!!!
    Have a great night! Lisa

  14. I didn't even pay my first payment on my car when a wind storm knocked over a basketball net. The top hit my door. It's a small hole from a screw. Made me cry too.

  16. car accidents - scary dangerous events. No injuries is always a good thing. We have survived the teen drivers in the family. Our youngest one had the worst experiences - two bad accidents - scrapes and bruises - both times she was not suppose to be driving the car at that time. My BIL smashed his mom's car right in front of his house. I hope this makes your son more careful behind the wheel it could have been much worst.
